One part of the middle turbinate is called the basal lamella, shown here in red checks. It forms a wall that separates the front ethmoid cells from the back ethmoid cells. The front face of the deep sinus behind the eyes (sphenoid sinus) has been removed in this view, but you can still see its opening.
