The lower (inferior) turbinate is large and fills most of the lower part of the nasal airway. It is long, running from the front of the nose all the way to the back. It does three jobs: it adds moisture to the air you breathe, it shrinks and swells to control how much air gets through, and it traps tiny particles to help clean the air.
