Because the back ethmoid cells have their own drainage route (green check), they are not always affected by the blockages that hit the front ethmoid, forehead, and cheek sinuses. Those three sinus groups share a drainage path under the middle turbinate. When all of the sinuses are involved together, it usually means there is an underlying inflammation of the lining or a widespread infection.
